Albert Road (16) - J.N. Walker, jeweller

John Nathaniel Walker had been established for 20 years as a jeweller and watchmaker at 162 Albert Road in 1899.
He was still trading there in 1902-03, according to Kelly's Directory for that year. The two empty sign brackets on the shop front and the hole in the fascia suggest a very run-down area, as does the small house next door. In front are two little girls in aprons, accompanied by what looks like their pet cat. None has kept very still for the photographer.  Note the mock window with arch  set into the wall directly above the porches of the two houses.
