East Ham Station (3)

East Ham has its own railway depot.

This view shows the early sidings built to accommodate the Metropolitan District Railway stock when that line was extended to East Ham in 1902. These were known as Little Ilford Sidings and lay in the  triangle of railways formed by the Barking to Gospel Oak line to the north, the LTSR (now C2C) from Fenchurch Street to Southend in the south and the spur from Woodgrange Park to East Ham on the western edge. The site is now covered by Hathaway Crescent in Manor Park.

East Ham still has a maintenance depot, located on the south side of the railway along Stevenage Road and the low bridges at the bottom end of Barrigton Road. This was built for the electrified stock on the Fenchurch Street Line when steam engines were  being phased out.
