In 1933 the London Passenger Transport Board was formed, becoming the "strategic" transport authority for greater London. West Ham contributed 134 trams to London Transport. In 1934 it took over route 1A. A public notice was issued at West Ham Depot that on Sunday, 12th September 1937 announcing that tram routes 1, 1A and 95 would be converted to trolley bus routes. Routes 1 and 1A operated as a circular trolleybus Route 689: Stratford Broadway, Portway, Green Street, Barking Road, High Street North, Plashet Grove, Plashet Road, Portway and Stratford Broadway.
