Memorial plaque from Passmore Edwards Museum, Stratford. Inscription: William Cole.  A.L.S.  Founder of the Essex Field Club.  First Curator of this Museum.  Died at St. Osyth 27. June 1922.             

William Cole was born in 1844. He was an Associate of the Linnean Society (A.L.S.) This is the leading society for natural history, named after Carl Linneus a Swede who categorised the worlds flora and fauna.
