Class 172

New railway rolling stock serves stations in Newham.

During the latter part of 2010, London Overground (a division of Transport for London) took delivery of eight of the new Class 172 Turbostar suburban units on a lease arrangement. Some of these units are assigned to the Barking - Gospel Oak Line and can be seen calling at Woodgrange Park and Wanstead Park Stations. The DMUs, built by Bombardier of Derby, have a top speed of 75 m.p.h. (120km/h), and are mounted on light-weight bogies. Each unit is 23 meters (approx 70 feet) long and is air-conditioned. They have fewer seats than the class 150 that they replace, but have wider aisles and circulating space as they are intended for short commuter journeys.
