Thames Association FC was formed to play at West Ham Stadium at Custom House in 1928. The stadium was used for Speedway and Greyhound Racing, and as an added attraction and to bring the crowds in for another sport, the Football team was formed to play on a Saturday. They originally played in the Southern League Eastern Division.
The team colours were Red and Blue quarters, which were the first Team colours adopted by the Speedway Team (Their original racing colours were white).
The club joined the Football League Third Division in 1930 and shortened its name to Thames FC. Thames struggle and only attracted meagre crowds. The worst was on the 6th December 1930 when less that 470 people watched them play against Luton(remembering the stadium capacity was over 100,000, so it must have looked very empty!). They finishing 20th out of 22 in 1931 and in 1932 were bottom of the league. Owing to their poor performance the club folded. The stadium was used for Greyhound racing, Speedway, and Stock cars until it was demolished in 1972.
