Boleyn Castle

Known locally as Boleyn Castle, this tower was in the garden of what was Green Steet House, the site is now occupied by West Ham United Football Club.

Green Street House, a red-brick building, mostly of two storeys, was erected about the middle of the 16th century, possibly by Richard Breame. His connection with the house possibly inspired the tradition, of which there is no contemporary evidence that Anne Boleyn lived at Green Street.

Breame was a servant of Henry VIII from whom, in 1529-31, the king rented a house at Greenwich, for the use of Anne's brother, Lord Rochford. It was in 1531 that Henry VIII finally deserted Katharine of Aragon, and the legend connecting Anne with Green Street may have originated in a boast by Breame or his descendants that it was in his house that Henry courted his second queen. In 1544 Breame bought from the king the manor of East Ham, but he may have been living at Green Street before that date.

West Ham Football Tram

Trams, as well as a form of transport were also a point of civic pride for a lot of Local Councils, and West Ham Corporation was no exception.

The tram would also be used to celebrate major events, and before the open top bus ride which we see now days when the local football team has a major success, an open top tram would be used.

FA Cup 1964

West Ham FA Cup 1964.

Although not a football fan, like all of West Ham I got fired up over the 1964 FA Cup Final, remembering the last time West Ham got there was the `White Horse` Final in 1923.
